Digital Wallet Refunds

Why does my refund receipt show a different card number?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

When you use a digital wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay, your actual card number is masked for security. These wallets use something called a Device Account Number, which might not match the last 4 digits of your physical card.

Because of this, your receipts may show a card number that looks unfamiliar.

To confirm which card your refund went to, follow the steps below:

Apple Pay

  1. Open your Wallet app.

  2. Tap the card you used.

  3. Tap the info icon (i) or Card Details (•••).

  4. Look for the Device Account Number (or Apple Pay Number)—this is what appears on your receipts.

  5. You can also view recent Apple Pay transactions tied to that card there.

When you receive a refund for an Apple Pay purchase, the money goes back to the payment card (credit or debit card) you used for the original purchase, and you can check the status of the refund with your financial institution or by visiting reportaproblem.apple.com

Google Pay

  1. Open the Google Wallet app.

  2. Tap the card you used for the transaction.

  3. Tap Details or More.

  4. Look for the Virtual Account Number—this is what appears on your receipt or refund notice.

  5. Your recent transactions will also be listed under that card.
