Why Are My Debts or Eligible Accounts Not Visible in the Relief App?
The Relief app helps users manage their debts and find relief options by using information from Equifax credit reports. However, there are situations where certain debts or eligible accounts may not appear in the app. This article explains the factors influencing debt visibility and offers guidance on what to do if your debts or accounts aren't showing as expected.
Factors That Affect Debt Visibility and Eligibility
1. Eligibility Criteria for Debts
Relief can only display debts that meet specific eligibility criteria. Some debts may not appear due to the following reasons:
Type of Debt: Relief supports specific types of debts, such as federal student loans, unsecured personal loans, and credit card debts. Private student loans, secured debts, or other types of obligations are not eligible to appear in the app.
Ownership: Debts associated with joint accounts or shared ownership may not always display since eligibility is determined per individual.
2. Visibility Issues in the App
Even if you have an eligible debt type, it may not appear in the app for these reasons:
Balance Threshold: Debts with a balance under $100 may not be shown.
Creditor Participation: Some creditors or loan servicers may not be supported by Relief at this time.
Timing of Account Updates: Relief rechecks for eligible savings opportunities about every 45 days, so changes to your account status may not reflect immediately.
Keep in mind each Relief tool has different eligibility requirements
3. Dependence on Equifax Reports
All information displayed in the Relief app comes directly from your Equifax credit report. Any discrepancies or missing accounts in the report will affect what is shown in the app. Relief does not have the ability to add or modify debt accounts, as it relies solely on the data provided by Equifax.
What to Do If You Notice Missing or Incorrect Information
Review Your Credit Report: Check your Equifax credit report to confirm whether the missing debt or account appears there. Any inaccuracies in the Equifax report should be corrected directly with Equifax.
Monitor for Changes: If your debt becomes eligible in the future (e.g., status changes, balance increases), the Relief app will recheck eligibility periodically and update the information automatically.
Contact Equifax for Discrepancies: If you find incorrect information, such as debts that do not belong to you or incorrect balances, it is crucial to resolve them through Equifax. Relief relies entirely on the accuracy of your credit report.
By understanding the app's criteria and taking proactive steps to address any discrepancies, you can ensure that your eligible debts and accounts are visible in Relief.
